Nam Kee, operated since 1981 by the Chan family in Amsterdam's Zeedijk is one. A Chinatown favorite long before Dutch novelist Kees van Beijnum alerted foodies to oysters' sensual pleasures in De Oesters van Nam Kee (The Oysters of Nam Kee) in 2000, the Cantonese eatery was named Best Chinese Restaurant in the Netherlands by Lonely Planet.

Het eerste restaurant Nam Kee ("vriend Nam") werd door Nam Chan in 1981 op de Amsterdamse Zeedijk geopend. Het restaurant telde slechts 16 zitplaatsen. Nam Chan stond zelf in de keuken om authentieke Cantonese gerechten te bereiden, zonder deze ten prooi te laten vallen aan de 'Hollandse smaak'. De eerste klanten waren dan ook vooral.

Nam Kee ( Chinese: 南記) is a chain of three Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The original restaurant opened at the Zeedijk in 1981 (currently at no. 111-113), followed by restaurants at the Geldersekade 117 in 1992 and at the Marie Heinekenplein 4 in 2010. [1] The name means "Friend Nam" in Chinese, after the owner Nam Chan. [1]
